Brackley & District Band delighted a full audience of around 120 people at their Christmas Concert on Sunday 15 December 2025, delivering an evening packed with festive warmth, musical quality and seasonal cheer. Held in a beautifully atmospheric setting, the concert proved to be a wonderful start to the Christmas season for all who attended.
The programme was brimming with Christmas favourites, including much-loved selections such as Jingle Bells, Feliz Navidad, A Christmas Bolero and the ever-popular Stop the Cavalry, all of which were warmly received by the audience. The band played with energy, style and confidence throughout, creating a truly joyful festive atmosphere.
Two outstanding solo performances were particular highlights of the evening. Solo Baritone Nick Wilson gave a moving and expressive rendition of O Holy Night, while Solo Cornet Nick Perry captivated the audience with a beautifully lyrical performance of Candlelight Carol. Both solos added moments of reflection and musical contrast within an otherwise lively and celebratory programme.
Audience members were also treated to festive refreshments during the interval, with mulled wine and mince pies adding to the convivial atmosphere and providing an opportunity for friends, family and supporters to come together and share in the occasion.
The response from the audience was overwhelmingly positive, with comments such as “It was a lovely performance, really lovely Christmas feel with amazing musicians, loved it,” and “Loved it! Great start to the festive season.” Such feedback was a testament to the band’s hard work and the high standard of music-making on display.
The concert was also a poignant moment in the band’s recent history, marking the final formal concert performance under the baton of Mark Probert. Mark stepped in to lead the band following the sudden passing of Peter Bassano some 11 months ago, and his commitment, musicianship and support over the past year have been invaluable. During the evening, Caryl Billingham spoke on behalf of the band to express heartfelt thanks and appreciation for everything Mark has done.
All in all, the Christmas Concert was a memorable and fitting end to the year — one that combined festive fun, musical excellence and sincere gratitude. It was, quite possibly, one of Brackley & District Band’s best Christmas concerts yet.
